Malayan Bank Chambers

The Malayan Bank Chambers, originally known as the Whiteaway Laidlaw Building, was a notable four-storey structure on Battery Road in Singapore, built in 1915 in a stripped-down classical style. Designed by London architects, it featured a fire-proof design with a spacious basement and elegant teak window fronts. The building served as a department store before being taken over by the Japanese army during World War II. In 1962, it was acquired by Maybank, which invested significantly in its refurbishment. Ultimately, the building was demolished in 1998 to make way for the Maybank Tower, marking the end of an era for this historical site.
