San Jose Earthquakes' 1970s–1980s home matches at Spartan Stadium

The San Jose Earthquakes soccer club began play in the mid-1970s and hosted many of its home matches in the 1970s and 1980s at Spartan Stadium on the San Jose State University campus. During that era the club operated under names including the San Jose Earthquakes and Golden Bay Earthquakes and participated in the professional U.S. soccer leagues of the time. The team's presence at Spartan Stadium helped establish San Jose's long-standing soccer culture that later carried into MLS. Spartan Stadium remains a historically significant venue in the city's soccer history.
