St. Urban Tower

The St. Urban Tower, located in Košice, Slovakia, is a striking Renaissance campanile built in the 16th century, featuring a distinctive pyramidal roof. It houses the St. Urban Bell, dedicated to the patron of vine-dressers, which was originally cast in 1557 and weighs seven tonnes. The tower underwent significant renovations, including the addition of a Baroque-style onion dome in 1775 and an arcade passage in 1912. Notably, its exterior is adorned with 36 ancient gravestones, some dating back to the Roman Empire. After suffering fire damage in 1966, the tower was reconstructed and reopened in 1971, featuring a replica of the original bell. The tower has also hosted various exhibitions, including a foundry work display and a wax museum showcasing historical figures from Košice's past, although the latter has since closed.
