Baxter Homestead

The Baxter Homestead, a historic site in Baxter Estates, New York, was built in 1673 and has a rich history tied to the Matinecock Native Americans and the American Revolutionary War. Once a public library and home to notable figures like architect Addison Mizner and actress Tallulah Bankhead, the homestead was designated a historical landmark in 2005. Unfortunately, a devastating fire in 2017 led to its demolition, but plans for a new home that incorporates elements of the original structure are underway, ensuring the legacy of this significant site continues.
