Colorado State Capitol – Mile-High Marker and Gilded Dome

The Colorado State Capitol, completed in 1894, houses the state legislature and the governor's offices. Its dome was gilded with Colorado-mined gold in 1908 and remains a prominent feature. A brass marker on the west steps traditionally marks 'one mile above sea level' (5,280 feet), though later geodetic surveys found slight differences from that original placement.
