Edificio del Seguro Obrero

The Edificio del Seguro Obrero is a historic 12-story office building located at 107 Morandé Street in the Civic District of Santiago, Chile. Originally constructed between 1928 and 1931 for the Caja del Seguro Obrero, it was designed by architect Ricardo González Cortés, showcasing influences from the Chicago school and Art Deco movement. The building gained notoriety due to the tragic Seguro Obrero massacre in 1938, where a violent confrontation led to the deaths of 59 protesters. Today, it serves as the headquarters for the Ministry of Justice of Chile and is situated near significant landmarks such as La Moneda Palace and the Plaza de la Constitución, making it a notable site for both tourists and researchers interested in Chilean history and architecture.
