Kingsley Plantation (Zephaniah and Anna Kingsley)

Kingsley Plantation on Fort George Island preserves the early 19th-century plantation associated with Zephaniah Kingsley Jr. and documents the life of Anna Kingsley (born Anta Majigeen Ndiaye), who was brought to Florida enslaved, later freed, and became a property owner-an uncommon legal and social position for a formerly enslaved African woman in that era. The site, part of the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve, interprets the documented lives and legal records of the Kingsleys and the enslaved community on the plantation.
