McMenamins Kennedy School (converted elementary school hotel and pub)

The Kennedy School building was a former public elementary school that McMenamins converted into a hotel, restaurants, bars, movie theaters, and a soaking pool complex. The adaptive reuse opened to the public under McMenamins' ownership in 1997 and preserved many of the school's classrooms as themed event and lodging spaces. The site is widely cited as a distinctive example of repurposing an early-20th-century school for hospitality and entertainment in Portland.
