Boston Athenaeum

Founded in 1807, the Boston Athenaeum is one of the oldest independent libraries in the United States. It maintains significant collections of rare books, manuscripts, prints, and fine art. The Athenaeum's reading room and exhibition spaces on Beacon Hill have served Boston's literary and cultural communities for over two centuries.
