El Cortez Hotel

El Cortez opened in 1927 as a luxury high-rise hotel and became one of downtown San Diego's most prominent early skyscrapers. For several decades it was among the tallest buildings in the city and featured a distinctive rooftop sign. The building has been repurposed over time for hotel and residential uses and is locally recognized as a historic downtown landmark.
