Güterstein Charterhouse

Güterstein Charterhouse, located in the picturesque Swabian Alb near Bad Urach, Baden-Württemberg, was a Carthusian monastery with a rich history dating back to the 13th century. Initially a Cistercian foundation, it flourished under the Benedictines before being handed over to the Carthusians in 1439, who expanded its influence and established it as a burial site for the Counts of Württemberg. The monastery was known for its significant contributions to printed works and its architectural grandeur. However, its prominence declined after the establishment of the University of Tübingen and the onset of the Reformation in 1535, leading to its eventual dissolution. Today, visitors can explore the remnants of its burial chapel and enjoy the scenic beauty of the surrounding area, including the nearby Güterstein waterfalls.
