68 and 70 Walmgate

68 and 70 Walmgate is a historic Grade II* listed building located in the heart of York, England, dating back to around 1700, with some medieval roof timbers suggesting even earlier origins. This unique structure, originally a large house with four bedrooms and servants' quarters, reflects the architectural history of an area that once faced poverty and industrialization. It underwent significant alterations in 1783, likely when it was divided into two and converted for commercial use. Notably, it served as the residence of the vicar of St Margaret's Church in the mid-19th century. After being acquired by Age Concern in 1985, it was transformed into a shop with offices above, and in 2021, it was repurposed into a charming holiday let called The Georgian Townhouse. Visitors can admire its distinctive orange brick facade, original plasterwork, and historical features while enjoying a stay in this beautifully preserved piece of York's heritage.
