The Briarcliffe is a historic 13-story residential building located at 171 West 57th Street in Midtown Manhattan, originally built as a hotel in 1922. Designed by architects Warren and Wetmore, it was converted into condominiums in 1999. Situated near Carnegie Hall and part of Billionaires' Row, the building features a notable penthouse once owned by Charles K. Eagle, who designed an expansive terrace filled with gardens. The penthouse has a tragic history, as Eagle committed suicide there in 1928 amid financial troubles. Over the years, the penthouse has changed hands multiple times, with its most recent sale occurring in 2017 for nearly $16 million. The Briarcliffe's rich history and prime location make it an intriguing spot for tourists and researchers alike.
