Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern

The Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern is an underground former drinking-water reservoir built in 1926 beneath Buffalo Bayou Park; its main chamber contains 221 concrete columns. After decades out of service it was converted by the Buffalo Bayou Partnership and reopened as a public art and event space hosting site-specific installations and guided tours. The flooded, columned interior is a prominent example of adaptive reuse of industrial ruins in Houston.
