Belmont Mansion, home of Adelicia Acklen

Belmont Mansion was completed in the early 1850s as the Nashville home of Adelicia Acklen and her husband Joseph Acklen; Adelicia later became one of Tennessee's wealthiest and most prominent 19th-century women. The Italianate mansion and its landscaped grounds are preserved as a historic house museum and are part of Belmont University's campus. The house reflects the Acklens' wealth derived from plantations and investments prior to the Civil War.
