Hueco Tanks State Historic Site - rock shelters and huecos

Hueco Tanks State Historic Site preserves natural rock basins (huecos) and large rock shelters that capture and hold rainwater and were used by Indigenous peoples for thousands of years. The site contains numerous prehistoric pictographs and petroglyphs and other archaeological resources associated with Jornada Mogollon and later occupants. Hueco Tanks is also internationally known as a premier bouldering area; access and climbing activities are managed and limited by Texas Parks and Wildlife to protect its cultural and natural resources.
