Banco Comercial (1962–2000)

The Banco Comercial was a significant office building in Lima, Peru, known for housing the Banco Comercial del Perú and later the Banco de la Nación. Designed by architect Enrique Seoane Ros, it featured a striking façade with marble and ceramics, and a mural of Machu Picchu. Tragically, it was destroyed by a fire in 2000 during protests, allegedly caused by a bomb to discredit demonstrators. The building was demolished in 2005 and replaced by the Plaza de la Democracia, inaugurated in 2006. This site now serves as a reminder of a tumultuous period in Peru's history.
