1962 escape from Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary (Frank Morris and the Anglin brothers)

On June 11, 1962 inmates Frank Morris and brothers John and Clarence Anglin escaped from Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary using improvised tools, dummy heads, and a homemade raft, then disappeared into San Francisco Bay. The three men were declared missing and presumed drowned, though their ultimate fate has never been conclusively determined and the escape remains officially unsolved. Alcatraz Island is accessed by ferries that depart from Pier 33 on The Embarcadero, the usual departure point for visitors to the former penitentiary.
