Dana-Palmer House

The Dana-Palmer House, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is a historic two-story wood-frame house built in 1823, showcasing Federal styling with a Greek Revival porch. It served as Harvard University's first astronomical observatory from 1835 to 1842, where notable figures like William Cranch Bond conducted celestial observations. The house later became a faculty residence for prominent scholars, including William James, who developed his influential concept of 'the Pluralistic Universe' there. After a significant move in 1947 to avoid demolition, it functioned as Harvard's official guest house until 2006, when it became home to the department of comparative literature.
