McSorley's Old Ale House - long‑running saloon and gender‑policy change

McSorley's Old Ale House, established in 1854, operates at its longtime location as one of New York City's oldest continuously run saloons. For much of its history it admitted only men; after litigation and public pressure, McSorley's first admitted women as patrons in 1970. The bar retains sawdust‑covered floors and many historical artifacts that contribute to its place in local lore.
