Dreamland amusement park destroyed by fire

Dreamland, a major Coney Island amusement park that opened in 1904, was destroyed by a catastrophic fire in 1911 that consumed its attractions and buildings, effectively erasing the park’s structures from the peninsula. Contemporary newspaper accounts and later histories record the park’s rapid destruction and the end of Dreamland as a physical place on Coney Island. The amusement park’s former site is within the modern Coney Island entertainment district.
