Casa de Osambela

The Casa de Osambela, also known as Casa de Oquendo, is a stunning late colonial mansion located in the historic center of Lima, Peru. Built between 1803 and 1805, it features a unique blend of Neoclassical and Rococo architectural styles, highlighted by its impressive façade adorned with five Louis XVI-style balconies. Originally owned by the Spanish shipbuilder Martín de Osambela, the house has a rich history, including hosting a grand dance for the liberator José de San Martín. After changing hands several times, it became a National Monument in 1963 and now serves as a cultural center, hosting events like the Lima Photography Biennial. Its distinctive design, including an octagonal lookout point and a layout that differs from typical colonial homes, makes it a fascinating site for tourists and researchers alike.
