Great Falls Tavern

Great Falls Tavern, located in Montgomery County, Maryland, is a historic building along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal towpath, serving as a visitor center for the National Park Service. Built between 1828 and 1831, it originally functioned as a lockkeeper's house and a lodging place for travelers. Known as the Crommelin House, it became a vibrant community hub before restrictions on alcohol and its designation as a lockhouse limited its social role. The tavern's north wing later transformed into a grocery store and an inn, reflecting its evolving significance in the area.
