The Cyclorama building (Boston Center for the Arts)

The Cyclorama building at 539 Tremont Street is a distinctive round brick structure originally built in 1884 to house giant panoramic paintings, including a long-displayed Cyclorama of the Battle of Gettysburg. The massive cylindrical form and historic use for panoramic painting make the building an unusual example of 19th-century exhibition architecture in Boston. Today the Cyclorama is part of the Boston Center for the Arts and is used for performances, exhibitions, and community arts programming. The original cyclorama painting was later removed and relocated, while the building remains a notable cultural venue.
