Balwearie

Balwearie is a historic plantation house located near Winnsboro in Fairfield County, South Carolina. Built around 1822, this charming 1+1⁄2-story residence features a unique combination of brick and frame construction, highlighted by a gabled roof and a picturesque cross-gabled front porch supported by six elegant wooden posts. The house has undergone alterations, particularly after a storm in 1886, and a rear porch was transformed into a kitchen in 1975. Recognized for its historical significance, Balwearie was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, making it an intriguing destination for tourists and researchers interested in Southern architecture and history.
