Exploratorium (original Palace of Fine Arts site and Pier 15 relocation)

The Exploratorium was founded by physicist Frank Oppenheimer in 1969 at the Palace of Fine Arts as a hands-on public science museum. In 2013 the institution relocated to a new, renovated facility on Pier 15 along the Embarcadero, designed to house interactive exhibits and waterfront science programs. The museum is noted for its long-running role in informal science education and for preserving its interactive, experimental approach through the move.
