Independence Seaport Museum and USS Olympia (naval legend)

The Independence Seaport Museum preserves maritime history at Penn's Landing and maintains the protected, docked cruiser USS Olympia, flagship of Commodore George Dewey at the 1898 Battle of Manila Bay. USS Olympia is a National Historic Landmark and a focal point for public interpretation of the Spanish–American War and naval heritage. The ship's association with Dewey and its long preservation have made it a locally prominent historic 'legend' in Philadelphia's maritime memory.
