New York Public Library, Stephen A. Schwarzman Building

The Stephen A. Schwarzman Building opened in 1911 and was designed by Carrère and Hastings in the Beaux-Arts style. It features the Rose Main Reading Room and two marble lion sculptures nicknamed "Patience" and "Fortitude" that guard the Fifth Avenue entrance. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a designated New York City Landmark.
