Boston City Hall - landmark Brutalist civic building

Boston City Hall, completed in 1968 and designed by Kallmann, McKinnell & Knowles, is one of the most prominent examples of Brutalist civic architecture in the United States. Its heavy masonry and concrete volumes, exposed structural elements, and recessed civic plaza were intended to express democratic transparency and public function, and the building remains widely cited in architectural history and preservation debates. It continues to serve as the seat of Boston's municipal government.
