Dr Growse's House

Dr Growse's House, located on Stirling Terrace in Toodyay, Western Australia, is a historic two-storey brick and render structure built in the early 1860s, potentially using convict labor. It served as the residence of Dr. Arthur Edwardes Growse, the local medical officer, from 1856 until his death in 1877. The house has undergone various renovations, notably by William Mayhew in 1884, who added a downstairs verandah. In 1902, it was acquired by the Sisters of Mercy, who established a convent school nearby. Known locally as 'the Ship', the building features an enclosed first-floor verandah with timber lattice panels and a distinctive corrugated iron roof, making it an interesting site for both tourists and researchers interested in local history and architecture.
