Balto statue (Central Park)

The Balto bronze statue in Central Park commemorates the sled dog Balto and the 1925 serum run to Nome; the memorial was dedicated in 1925. The life-size sculpture depicts Balto standing on a rock and has been a longstanding, climbable feature popular with park visitors, especially children. The statue was funded by a newspaper cartoonist and other donors to honor the sled dogs and mushers involved in the serum run.
