Douglass Place

Douglass Place is a historic group of rowhouses in Baltimore, Maryland, built in 1892, showcasing typical 'alley house' architecture of the era. Featuring Italianate design elements, these two-story buildings were constructed by the renowned abolitionist Frederick Douglass as rental housing for African Americans in the Fells Point neighborhood, where he lived in the early 19th century. The site also holds historical significance as the former location of the Dallas Street Station Methodist Episcopal Church, which Douglass attended. Recognized for its cultural importance, Douglass Place was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, making it a noteworthy destination for tourists and researchers interested in African American history and architecture.
