The Dakota

The Dakota is a landmark cooperative apartment building on the Upper West Side completed in the 1880s and noted for its ornate Renaissance Revival–style architecture and secluded courtyard layout. It has housed numerous artists, musicians, and writers and is widely known for its long association with John Lennon; Lennon lived there with Yoko Ono and was murdered outside the building in 1980. The building is a New York City landmark and remains an iconic residential address adjacent to Central Park.
