Michigan Central Station (historic rail terminal)

Michigan Central Station opened in 1913 as a major New York Central Railroad passenger terminal and was closed to regular service in 1988. The 18-story Beaux-Arts/Piedmont-style building became an iconic, long-vacant landmark in Detroit. In 2018 Ford Motor Company purchased the building and has undertaken a multi-phase rehabilitation and redevelopment program to convert it into a mixed-use campus. The building’s history and restoration efforts have been widely documented as part of Detroit’s urban and cultural revival.
