Matinecock Point

Matinecock Point was a grand Neo-Georgian estate located on East Island in Glen Cove, Long Island, designed by architect Christopher Grant LaFarge for Jack Morgan, heir to the J.P. Morgan banking fortune. Completed in 1913, the estate featured 57 rooms, lavish gardens, and a mile-long tree-lined driveway adorned with daffodils in spring. The estate's history includes a dramatic assassination attempt on Morgan in 1915 by a disgruntled former professor. After Morgan's death in 1943, the estate changed hands multiple times, eventually falling into disrepair and being partially developed. Today, remnants of the original dairy complex and cottages remain, serving as a testament to the estate's storied past amidst suburban homes.
