Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP) around East Precinct

In June 2020, protesters established the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP) in the area around Seattle Police Department's East Precinct following George Floyd protests; the precinct building was vacated by officers on June 8, 2020. The zone functioned as a largely autonomous protest area for several weeks and witnessed multiple shootings, including at least one fatal incident, before city authorities cleared the area at the end of June/beginning of July 2020. CHOP prompted extensive local and national debate about policing, public safety, and protest tactics.
