Griechenbeisl

Griechenbeisl is one of Vienna's oldest restaurants, established in 1447, located at Fleischmarkt 11 near the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Originally named for the Levantine merchants in the area, it has operated under various names throughout its history, including 'Zum gelben Adler' and 'Zum Goldenen Engel'. The restaurant became known as Griechenbeisl when Greek merchants settled nearby in the 17th century. It is renowned for serving traditional Viennese cuisine and is historically significant for introducing Pilsner Urquell beer to Vienna in 1852. The establishment is also linked to the fictional character Marx Augustin, a singer and bagpiper who frequented the venue in the 17th century.
