South Mountain Park Hohokam Sites

South Mountain Park and Preserve contains multiple documented prehistoric Hohokam archaeological sites, including habitation locations and petroglyph panels on the park’s mesas and slopes. Archaeological surveys have recorded surface features and artifacts dating to the Hohokam occupation (roughly AD 450–1450). The park’s trails provide access to some of these sites while others are protected and monitored by the city and archaeologists.
