Portland Art Museum - history and expansion

Founded in 1892, the Portland Art Museum is the oldest art museum in the Pacific Northwest and one of the oldest art museums in the United States. Its permanent collections include significant Native American art and a substantial collection of Northwest regional art. The museum completed a major expansion in 2016 that opened the Jubitz Center for Modern and Contemporary Art to increase gallery space for temporary exhibitions. The institution is a central component of Portland's downtown cultural district.
