The Phillips Collection

The Phillips Collection, founded in 1921 by Duncan Phillips, is considered America's first museum of modern art and is housed in a former residence and adjacent buildings in Dupont Circle. Its permanent collection spans Impressionist to contemporary works and the museum is known for its intimate, house-museum presentation and rotating special exhibitions. The Phillips also runs educational programs and public events focused on modern and contemporary art.
