The Resolute Desk in the White House Oval Office

The Resolute Desk was made from timbers of the British ship HMS Resolute and was presented to the United States by Queen Victoria in 1880; it has been used by many U.S. presidents in the Oval Office. The desk is documented in White House inventories and presidential photographs and has become an identifiable object associated with presidential work and ceremony. It remains on display in the White House and is part of its historic furnishings.
