Model Industries Building

The Model Industries Building, located on Alcatraz Island near San Francisco, is a historic structure originally built by the U.S. military. Initially serving as a laundry facility, it became part of the federal penitentiary's workshop system for inmates after 1939. The building has a unique history, including a significant landslide in 1935 that prompted security enhancements, such as a guard tower and barred windows. Today, the building stands as a rusted relic of its past, offering a glimpse into the life of Alcatraz during its time as a prison, with the former guard tower now displayed near the Power plant.
