Hillcrest (Cochran, Georgia)

Hillcrest, also known as Cedar Hall, is a historic two-story house located at 706 Beech Street in Cochran, Georgia. Built in the early 20th century, this fine example of Classical Revival architecture features a monumental portico, spacious rooms, and intricate interior details such as paneled wainscoting and Ionic columns. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, Hillcrest is significant for its architectural style and its historical ties to prominent local families, including John Joseph Taylor and John Augustus Walker. Taylor, a key figure in Cochran's development, built the house as a wedding gift for his daughter in 1910. The house remained in the family until 1965, and it underwent restoration under Dr. Virlon Griner from 1970 to 1981, making it a notable site for both tourists and researchers interested in local history and architecture.
