Roberts Temple - Emmett Till open-casket funeral

After Emmett Till was abducted and murdered in Mississippi in August 1955, his mother held an open-casket funeral at Roberts Temple to show the brutality of his killing. Photographs from the service, held at this church, were widely published and helped galvanize national attention for the civil rights movement.
