Ford's Theatre and Petersen House archaeological work

Archaeological investigations conducted at Ford's Theatre and the Petersen House have recovered mid-19th-century artifacts and mapped structural remnants from the period of Abraham Lincoln's assassination. Excavations have aided restoration and interpretation of the theatre and adjacent buildings, providing material context for 1860s building practices and urban life in that block. The work has been overseen by the National Park Service as part of the site's preservation program.
