Cliff House (historic seaside restaurant complex)
By Seeker
The Cliff House site at 1090 Point Lobos Avenue was first developed as a public restaurant and viewpoint in 1863 and has hosted multiple successive buildings, including notable Victorian- and early-20th-century iterations. Adolph Sutro developed the surrounding Lands End area and the adjacent Sutro Baths, tying the Cliff House to late 19th-century coastal leisure and resort architecture. The site's terraces and ocean-facing positions made it a long-standing public attraction and a documented example of seaside architectural development in San Francisco. Rebuilding and restoration efforts over time reflect changing architectural tastes and coastal construction practices.
