Old Corner Bookstore (site of Ticknor and Fields)

The building at 283 Washington Street dates to 1718 and became the 19th-century publishing house and office of Ticknor and Fields. That firm published authors including Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry David Thoreau, and Ralph Waldo Emerson, making the site central to Boston's 19th-century literary scene. The structure remains at the same downtown location and is marked as a historic building.
