Liceu Velho

Liceu Velho is a historic building located in the heart of Mindelo, Cape Verde, on Praça Dr. Duarte Silva. Originally constructed between 1859 and 1873 as military barracks, it later became a key educational institution, housing the Liceu Nacional Infante Dom Henrique and later the Liceu Gil Eanes. Since 2008, it has been home to the Mindelo Escola Internacional de Arte, contributing to the city's vibrant cultural scene. Notable alumni include writer Orlanda Amarílis and independence activist Amílcar Cabral, making it a significant landmark for both tourists and researchers interested in Cape Verde's educational and colonial history.
