The Gates (Central Park, 2005)

The Gates was a temporary site-specific installation by artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude installed across Central Park from February 12–27, 2005, consisting of 7,503 saffron-colored fabric panels hung from frames along park walkways. The project stretched over 23 miles of footpaths and was one of the largest temporary public art installations in the park's history. The installation was coordinated with Central Park Conservancy staff and drew extensive public and critical attention during its limited run.
