Triangle Shirtwaist Factory (Asch/Brown Building site)

The Triangle Shirtwaist Company occupied the top floors of the Asch Building at 23–29 Washington Place. On March 25, 1911, a fire at the factory killed 146 garment workers; the business as it operated there ceased after the disaster. The fire’s human toll and public outcry led to major reforms in New York labor law and building safety regulations.
